My work is influenced by the seeming chaos of urban living, particularly what most people overlook as they walk the same streets every day. Crowds walking through City Hall their shapes washed out by the glare at the end of the underpasses. The tunnels and bridges of the abandoned rail line and the effects of light and shadow created by them. I work to capture my initial reaction to these scenes in my painting. I start with a drawing, gradually building and adjusting color and leaving traces of the underpainting, evoking the way the urban past is simultaneously preserved and destroyed, until I feel I've captured a glance, a moment in time and the light and shadow of the scene.
